Lolita Chakrabarti to star in Stephen Beresford’s adaptation of Fanny and Alexander at The Old Vic

Casting is complete for the Old Vic’s upcoming production of Ingmar Bergman’s Fanny and Alexander, which has been adapted for the stage by Stephen Beresford.

Directed by Max Webster, previews will begin at the London venue February 21, 2018, prior to an official opening March 1.

The cast includes Olivier winner Penelope Wilton, Thomas Arnold, Lolita Chakrabarti, Kevin Doyle, Karina Fernandez, Annie Firbank, Matt Gavan, Tim Lewis, Gary MacKay, Gloria Obianyo, Vivian Oparah, Michael Pennington, Hannah James Scott, Jonathan Slinger, Catherine Walker, and Sargon Yelda.

The role of Fanny will be played by Zaris Angel Hator, Amy Jayne Leigh, Molly Shenker, and Katie Simons; the role of Alexander will be shared by Guillermo Bedward, Kit Connor, Jack Falk and Misha Handley. The actors will alternate performances.

Set in 1900s Sweden, siblings Fanny and Alexander’s world is turned upside down when their widowed mother remarries the iron-willed local bishop.

The production will also have set design by Tom Pye, costume design by Laura Hopkins, music compositions by Alex Baranowski, lighting design by Mark Henderson, sound design by Tom Gibbons, casting by Jessica Ronane CDG, movement direction by Toby Sedgwick, illusions by Ben Hart, and assistant direction by Tatty Hennessey.
