Blithe Spirit, starring Dan Stevens, Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher and Dame Judi Dench will now be available simultaneously on Sky Cinema and NOW TV alongside its big screen release.
The adaptation of the classic Noël Coward play was due to hit cinemas in the UK on Boxing Day, but has now been pushed back to January 15, when it will also drop on the home service.
Blithe Spirit sees Stevens’ character Charles face writers’ block as the deadline for his first screenplay fast approaches.
New wife Ruth (Isla Fisher) is trying everything she can to keep him focussed on his work, but Charles turns to medium Madame Arcati (Judi Dench) for inspiration as he gets her to perform a séance in his home.
However, she accidentally summons the ghost of his deceased wife Elvira (Leslie Mann), who sets out to kill her husband in order to spend eternity together.
Sarah Wright, Director of Sky Cinema and Acquisitions at Sky UK & Ireland, said of the addition: “2021 is going to be a big year for original film at Sky and what better way to kick it off than with Blithe Spirit?
“Based on the Noël Coward production, this sparkling comedy is full of fun, frolics and an all-star cast. A great way to banish the January blues!”
The movie is directed by Edward Hall (Downton Abbey, Spooks) and also stars the likes of Julian Rhind-Tutt (Stardust), Emilia Fox (Silent Witness), Adil Ray (Citizen Khan) and James Fleet (Outlander).
Blithe Spirit will be released in cinemas and on Sky Cinema on January 15. The film will also be available on streaming service NOW TV via the Sky Cinema Pass.
