The Pragnell Award is given at Shakespeare’s birthday each year to those that have furthered the enjoyment and understanding of the Bard’s work. This year it was awarded to actor Adrian Lester CBE.
Introduced in 1990, the Pragnell Shakespeare Birthday Award celebrates individuals who have significantly furthered our understanding, knowledge and love for the Bard’s work.
Each year, the recipient is chosen by a committee of representatives from The Shakespeare Institute, The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
The 2022 event was hosted by Alexander Armstrong in Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday 23rd April and attended by, amongst others, Dame Judi Dench, Joanna Lumley, Lolita Chakrabarti, Maureen Lipman and Stephen Fry.
